1. Suit care:
- Hang your suit pants from the bottom of the pants so the wrinkles fallout.
- Do not stuff your suit in the closet, allow for room on each side of the suit, to avoid wrinkling and damage.
- Always hang your suit jacket on a rounded suit hanger so it maintains its shoulder shape.
- Do not hang your suit on a metal hanger or on the back of a chair.
- Remove any items from your pockets when you hang your suit coat to avoid strain on the jacket's pockets and maintain original shape.
- Hang your suit outside of the closet for 24 hours before putting it in the closet. It will help release any moisture trapped in your suits.
- Avoid ironing your suit yourself because wool can get easily damaged.
- Do not machine wash your suit.
- If you are rained on in a suit; hang up as soon as possible. If it dries looking lumpy then send it to the dry cleaner for a pressing.
- For all stains on suits, shirts, and ties, bring promptly to the dry cleaners. Point out to the dry cleaner the spots and stains that need pretreatment. If not told and they missed the stain, it can leave a permanent scar on the suit.
- An alternative to ironing your suit is to run a hot shower, allow steam to collect in the bathroom, and hang your suit in the bathroom for 10 minutes. Do not do this more than 4x a year.
- Do not dry clean your suit more than 4x a year.
- Do not rub on stains or dirt to avoid embedding them into the fabric.
2. Shirt care:
- Always wear a plain white undershirt under your shirt to avoid staining your dress shirt.
3. Tie care:
- After wearing your tie, untie it by following the rules: "How to Tie a Tie" backward.
- Fold the tie in half and then roll your tie in a loose ball on its side to allow the wrinkles to fall out.
4. Shoe care:
- Always use cedar shoe trees for your shoes because it absorbs the moisture and helps keep its shape.
- Do not use a hair dryer to dry your shoes if you're caught in the rain. This will ruin them.
- When you purchase new shoes make sure you put "taps" on the front and back of your shoes to preserve the life of your shoes. This can be done at any shoeshine or shoe repair store.
