How to Create Outfits and Mix Patterns

1. Remember "Major - Major - Minor":

  • A major is any garment that has a pattern to it. Ex: a striped shirt or a striped suit.
  • A minor is any garment that is a solid or mostly solid color. Ex: a solid navy suit or a solid white shirt.

2. When creating outfits, never have more than 2 patterns:

  • Ex: a pinstripe suit, with a striped shirt will only work with a mostly solid color tie.

3. If you are going to wear a striped shirt with a striped suit then make sure that the stripe in the shirt is thinner in width than the stripe in your suit.

4. If you are wearing a striped shirt with a striped tie then make sure that the tie's stripes are bolder and wider than the shirt stripes.
